Day 001

I’ve decided to put aside all the little odd jobs I’ve been doing, which have basically been me procrastinating, and really focus on getting the collection finalized this week, since there’s only one month left before fashion week (gulp!).

Today is Day 1, which means I’m working on Style 001. For those of you who haven’t read the bio, The Square Project is a study in shapes relating to the human form. Each style is made up of a different number of equally sized squares. Style 001 is made using one single square. Style 002 is made using two squares, etc… Each garment is folded, sewn and shaped differently to resemble a garment, but they are never cut and always maintain the integrity of the original square shape. The wearer completes the garment by filling it with the very fluid human form.

I’ve been collecting an assortment of vintage, recycled and discarded beads, metal sequins and other various trims for the past few years and today I finally decided to use them! The resulting piece will be a one-of-a-kind for the show (which I may or may not choose to sell later on). I will design a complimentary piece for the actual collection, but this one will be my coup-de-coeur, and if all goes well, it will be the show opener. I will post the final results hopefully by the end of this week. In the meantime the little pic above is just a teaser. All the trims are gold, brass or black. It’s gonna be hot!
