Here is a link to the show music in case any of you want to download the track.

It was composed by my friend, Sonia, who did an amazing job interpreting my failed attempt at explaining what I really wanted, which was this.

I will have a video of the show shortly, still waiting for it to be edited.

An inspirational visit.

My brother and his husband Thom surprised me with a visit to NY this week (which is part of the reason I haven’t been posting regularly).  Jordan has been nothing but supportive and encouraging since I left the world of mass consumerism to launch this collection on my own.  He was one of the few people in my immediate entourage who pushed me forward instead of pointing out all the negatives when I had my own doubts.  I hope he knows how important he has been in the development of this collection (and maintaining my sanity).

We went to the Guggenheim to see the Kandinsky exhibit which blew me away.  I’ve never seen so many of Kandinsky’s works all in one place, nor have I seen such a clear progression of his work throughout his career, spanning two wars, several moves to new countries, and differing painting philosophies.

My final collection for Covet was inspired by Kandinsky’s later work, done while he taught at the Bauhaus in Berlin.  I saw a smaller exhibit at the Tate Modern in London over a year ago that stuck with me.  I didn’t realize it until I saw the painting above, but I believe there was some strong inspiration from that work in The Square Project as well.  But his earlier work struck a cord this time and I believe I will carry that with me to the Fall 2010 collection.  But more on that later.

I’m preparing linesheets and sending out sales packets to the stores I would like to see carrying the SS10 collection.  My wish list of stores, you might say.  This is not my favourite part of the job, but it is a very necessary part.

Here are pics of the show courtesy of our show photographer, Jeff Elstone.  I wish I had more pre-show backstage pics, but there were cameras everywhere so I’m sure they’ll surface at some point.

Backstage pass

I apologize for not posting these pics earlier, this week has been beyond hectic.  I want to thank everyone who came to the show, who sent me emails of support before and after the show and of course all the generous people who funded the project on kickstarter when they didn’t know me at all. Thank you!

I also want to thank my mom for running 9 big errands for me before the show.  My models would have been barefoot and starving if it weren’t for her.  And my experience would have been far less special if she hadn’t been there to share it with me.

More thank you’s later, right now I’m leaving you with some backstage pics of the models dressed in the looks, the dry run of the show and me instructing the models on how and when to walk (I think I scared them!).

Arleen, Laura and Silvia, it was so nice to finally meet you.  I’m really happy you could make it to the show!

Congratulations Victoria and Elias!

I was supposed to be lounging on a Greek Island today, celebrating the mariage of two of my closest NY friends, Victoria and Elias.  Sadly fashion week has no mercy and they scheduled my show 3 days after the wedding.  At first I tried to convince myself that I could do both and come back from Greece a day before my show… but then reason and sanity set in and I realized I’d have to miss one.  While I’d love to be sipping ouzo in the warm volcanic sand, the truth is I couldn’t pass up the chance to show my work at NY fashion week.  So here I am.

To V&E: all my love and wishes of happiness, health and a long future together!  Break a plate for me.

Update: that is now them in the picture, finally back in NY after their envious honeymoon!
