This is Emily. She’s the model I cast for my shoot next week.  I love her short hair (which is even shorter now because it was cut at another shoot she did this week) and the fact that she took ballet for 12 years.  Graeme and I were looking for a girl who could move well and wasn’t shy about silly poses, so she is going to be perfect.

You also get a sneak peak at some of my Spring 2011 collection since these pics were taken when she came in for a casting / fitting. We’re shooting by the steps in Fort Greene park, can’t wait!

Indigo dye

After a very long but exciting day, I came home to find this little package waiting for me. I ordered an Indigo Dyeing starter kit from Earth Hues and I’m really excited to try it, despite how daunting the package is (it comes with a mask and rubber gloves!)

So this weekend, while New York is being pounded by a potential hurricane, I’ll be up to my elbows in natural indigo dye, getting the last of Fall production out, and doing some tests on Spring 11 samples.

Fashion week is very rapidly approaching in NY, and it’s painfully obvious at all the sample rooms and factories who are scrambling to finish the runway samples.  It makes me very happy that I’m not presenting a runway collection this season.  Instead, I’ll be showing at D&A which starts shortly after fashion week.

In the meantime, I’m finishing up samples, costing and getting ready for a photo shoot next Tuesday (weather permitting). The model agency called me today to inform me that the girl I booked for my shoot had her hair cut super short at a job today.  But considering all the other crises I’ve suffered in the past, this one seems relatively minor.  Short hair it is!
