More ikat patterns
Okay, I know I wasn’t going to post more pics of the ikat patterns I bought, but I’m so excited about these shorts I couldn’t wait. And they turned out to be no-waste shorts. Actually, they had to be, since the fabric is only 16″ wide and costs $18/yd. That’s expensive! The pattern turned out to be simple enough after a little tweaking, and the waistband fits into all the empty spaces. It has to be pieced together from 5-6 separate parts, but I actually like the way that looks.
I made two pairs of these this weekend, one in the silk ikat and one in linen, among a few other styles. Why I always end up being most inspired and productive two days before a deadline is beyond me. But I’m starting to understand why Marc Jacobs has his team at Louis Vuitton remake entire collections right before the runway show. I know I’m no Marc… but maybe I shouldn’t be judging him so harshly.
