Look at what my adorable first-ever intern did! (she’s the one pictured above)  I’d love to take credit for her commitment to sustainable design, but she was all about it before she came to work for me… and she was around at the very beginning of Study, back in the Kickstarter, Green Shows, Square Project days.  Holla!

We’ll have cupcakes and evening booze, and there will be lots of fun things on the racks since we all need to clear out space for the new Spring merch arriving any minute, so unless you don’t like cupcakes or booze or fun things, we look forward to seeing you!

Putting the collection to the test

I had very limited luggage space for my personal clothing after packing up everything I needed for the trade show in London this week:
lookbooks
hangers
linesheets
perfume samples
and of course the entire Fall 11 collection

So instead of packing a second bag I decided to just wear the samples instead. Not only would I spare myself a potential back injury from the extra weight of my luggage, I could also use the opportunity to test the wearability of some of the styles.

So far no major flaws, I could reduce the sleeve opening of one of the jackets, and rework the size scale of a couple of the pieces (I tend to make things oversized to a fault), and rethink the label position on the square dress. But for the most part I’m very happy with the fit and fabric selections. I’m also incredibly happy with the way all the styles work together. I’d be comfortable blindly grabbing two pieces off the rack and knowing they would make a good outfit (providing I didn’t grab two pairs of trousers).

What has surprised me however is the fact that I’m already tired of looking at this collection. It could be because I’ve been working so closely with it for the past month, or because I’ve been staring at the samples on the rack at the show for the past 3 days. I’m confident that several of the pieces will remain in my closet for years. I still love the collection. And it hasn’t even

So why am I sick of it? Is it just human nature to want to move on to the next thing? Is it a necessary prerequisite for designers to be able to move on to designing a new collection every season?

I would love some insight into this matter if anyone has some?
